The gauge glass on a Vespa can melt if the scooter is left in the sun and the sunlight reflects off a windshield onto the gauge.

But of course, any number of things could have happened that ruined the gauge glass. They're not usually sold separately, but you're lucky to know us, because we have original gauge glasses we've removed from new scooters (because we installed a smoked glass on them). So, there might be a minimal sign of wear.
